What is the misi800.com stock game? The stock game allows legal residents of the UK to enjoy the thrills and spills of the UK stock market without any risk. You may trade a variety of UK stocks throughout the trading game testing various investment strategies through building your own portfolio. At the end of the trading game, the player with the highest account value and various runners up participants will receive great cash prizes. |
What is my Account Value and how often does it update? Your Account Value is the sum of your Cash Balance added to your portfolio holdings. As your portfolio of stocks appreciates or depreciates in value, this will affect your Account Value. Your Account Value will update every time you refresh the 'Position' page if the market has moved. |
What is my Buying Power and how often does it update? Whenever a player trades, his/her ammunition or Buying Power is affected. A stock trading above the 200p threshold is more liquid than stocks with lower prices, and therefore carries less risk. In view of this we are only deducting half of the purchase price of the stock from your Buying Power, whereas stocks trading below 200p are fully deducted from your Buying Power. Your Buying Power equals: Cash Balance PLUS {value of portfolio of all long positions trading above Margin Threshold * Margin Rate} MINUS {value of portfolio of all short positions * Short Sell Margin Rate}. Your Buying Power updates every time you trade and every time your Account Value updates, although a final reconciliation will also take place after the market closes.
|
What is my Cash Holding? This is the starting amount of fantasy money that we credit to your account allowing you to trade. If you exceed this amount during the course of the trading game, you may trade using your margin account, which is automatically tapped. |
How do I execute a trade? When logging onto our trading suite for the first time, you will find a default selection of stocks with their current prices. You may change this selection, as many times as you wish, to display any stocks available in that particular trading game. All trades are executed in real-time, subject to misi800.com's bid/offer spread. You will always buy at the 'offer' and sell at the 'bid'. Once you have selected an amount of shares on the appropriate stock, you will have ten seconds to confirm the trade. Simply click 'OK' if you agree the position. |
There is a message telling me that I have insufficient Buying Power? A player must have enough Buying Power to perform a transaction. When trading, If you are opening / increasing a position, your Buying Power will decrease, whereas if you are closing / decreasing a position, your Buying Power will increase. If you find you have exceeded your Buying Power, you will only be allowed to liquidate current holdings from your portfolio at that point. |
There is a message telling me that I have exceeded maximum volume? A player may only trade a percentage of the greater of the current and previous days trading volumes in any one trade. This is to make the game more realistic as you would be unable to buy unlimited amounts of stock in the real world - especially where the stocks are 'illiquid'. |
There is a message telling me that I have exceeded maximum position size? The amount of any one stock a player can buy or sell may not exceed the stated maximum for each game. If your holdings exceed this maximum due to price movement, you will not be forced to liquidate your position. |
Can I leave orders? At the moment you cannot leave orders in the trading game. |
Are stock splits adjusted for in my account? Stock splits are accounted for at the end of the trading day after the market close. |
When are IPOs available for trading? IPOs may only be traded once they are listed on the exchange. |
How often does the ranking update? The ranking page will update every two minutes. |
What do I do with my portfolio when the trading game finishes? Nothing! Your portfolio will be valued at the closing bid/offer for each stock on last trading day of the game. Stocks you own will be marked to the 'bid', whereas stocks you have sold short will be marked to the 'offer'. |
Where can I find a record of my trades? All transactions are recorded in your Transaction History immediately after trading, sorted by individual stocks. Please be sure to check that each trade appears correctly in your Transaction History as we cannot accept responsibility for discrepancies reported late. |
How does the misi800.com spread game work? A spread is represented by a 'bid' and an 'offer' allowing traders to sell at the 'bid' when they think a contract is going to head lower, and buy at the 'offer' when they think the contract is going to go up. For every 'pip' by which you are correct, you gain a multiple of your chosen stake, but if incorrect, would lose a multiple of your original stake. If the FTSE 100 was trading at 6500/10, this means you would be able to buy at 6510 and sell at 6500. The stake 'at risk' is up to you. So, if you decided to buy with a stake of 100 points per pip, then every point higher would earn you 100 points and every point lower would cost you 100 points. You may trade a variety of instruments in this format in the spread game. |
What is my realised p/l? Realised profit/loss is calculated when a player reduces or closes an existing position. If a player bought 1,000 points worth of USD/JPY at 106.40 and sold this position at 106.80, the player's realised profit would be 40,000 points. |
What is my unrealised p/l? Unrealised profit/loss is calculated when a player's open positions are market to the market based on the price where they bought or sold an instrument, and the current market price. If a player bought 1,000 points worth of USD/JPY at 106.40 and the market is currently trading at 106.80, the player's unrealised profit would be 40,000 points. |
How often do the profit/losses update? Realised profit and losses will update only when a player reduces a position, whereas unrealised profit and losses will update in real-time as the market moves. |
What does a 'blow-out' mean? Participation in the spread game will be terminated if the value of a players account falls below minus one million fantasy points. This valuation is the cumulative realised and unrealised profit and loss for each contract traded. |
When could I be 'blown out' of the game? An account revaluation that may lead to a 'blow-out' will be calculated at 18:00 LDN p.m. daily. |
How often does the ranking update? The ranking page updates every two minutes. |
What software do I need to run the game? Note. The Trading Game is reliant on a Java and Javascript enabled browser such as Internet Explorer 4.0 + or Netscape Navigator 4.6 +. |
